Because the Hands hold and control the Clubshaft, Clubhead and Clubface they must be educated to do the correct work throughout the golf stroke.

 Uneducated Hands can nullify it all and "never even be suspected" Homer Kelley (Chapter 5).

Wrist Motions control the following three areas;

1. Clubshaft

2. Clubhead

3. Clubface

The wrists are classified into nine different positions (Chapter 4). Some of these you may already be aware of but it is very important that you understand all of them and there correct terminology.

Although there are nine different motions that the hands can make we will see that there are differences between the Left and Right Hand motions throughout the golf stroke.

Because the hands hold and control the Clubshaft, Clubhead and Clubface they must be educated to do the correct work throughout the golf stroke.

Uneducated Hands can nullify it all and "never even be suspected" (Chapter 5).

The Three Basic Wrist Motions Are Classified As;

Horizontal - FLAT --- BENT --- ARCHED --- (CLUB SHAFT) == GRIP MOTION

Perpendicular- LEVEL --- COCK --- UNCOCK --- (CLUB HEAD) == WRIST MOTION

Rotational - VERTICAL --- TURN --- ROLL --- (CLUBFACE) == HAND MOTION

Drill- Correct Wrist Motions

1. Hold both hands out at arms length in front of you at chest height. Practice making all the nine wrist motions so that you are fully aware of these.

2. Hold your Left Hand out in front of you at chest height. All the Left Wrist does during the golf stroke is to Cock and Uncock. This is a Perpendicular Motion only. The Left Wrist must never Bend, or Arch.

Left Wrist CockedLeft Wrist Uncocked (Fully Uncocked)

Left Wrist only Cocks and Uncocks

Hold the right hand out in front of you at chest height. All the right hand does is Hinge Backwards. This is a Horizontal Motion. The right wrist must not arch or cock.

Right Wrist Bends Only

Right Wrist only Hinges (Bends Backwards)

As the hands are the only part of your body that connects you to the club they must be educated to do the following;

1. Grip the club correctly.

2. Know the Three Pressure Points

3. Have a light hand pressure on the club at address and maintain this same pressure throughout the swing until the finish position.

4. Educate the hands to make their correct motions

Wrist Actions

Wrist actions are classified according to Left Wrist conditions prior to impact. The downstroke changes are opposite to the backstroke changes but do not always occur at the same point in the stroke.

As the Vertical Wrist moves too the right during the backstroke it is Turning-opening to the flight line (by the pivot) - but is not actually Turned. Moving to the left during the downstroke it is Rolled - closing to the flight line (by the pivot) - but is not Rolled.

When the Left Wrist leaves its Vertical position with a Wrist Rotation it is Swiveling - not Hinging
